The Letter S

I hope that everyone had a wonderful three-day weekend!  Our Tuesday back began with morning business. Then we introduced our letter of the week and read "My S Book." During language arts rotations, we read "I See Sam" and created the tactile page "String on Ss on a Star." At my table we worked on a math assessment and did some "S" handwriting. Be sure to take you time on them this week!  We also had secret centers. After snack and recess, we had Tech Lab. Mr. Riko had everyone use Tux Paint to make a penguin picture. When we returned, we learned our new poem of the week, "Simple Simon." We also introduced math topic 9 on composing and decomposing numbers to 10.

After lunch, we started that math topic by building the numbers 4 and 5. We tried to come up with different ways to make 3 using boys and girls. Then we tried to make 4 using the colors red and yellow. It was a little tricky. The good news is that we just started the chapter, so we will have more practice learning this concept. When we were done, we had Star of the Week. Jakob ahred his cool poster and took questions and comments from the class. Then we had "Playing Buddies" to end the day. Mr. Bassett's Room 19 met us on the yard and we had free play with our fourth grade buddies. It was fun!  When we got back, we passed out homework packets and lined up for home.

Please look over the homework packets. Remember we only have three days to work on it with the short week, so try and get a little extra done each day. Also, there is a note about class t-shirts and two book order forms for the month of January.
