Penguins and Jenny's Last Day

There was a lot going on this Thursday in Room 2.  After our morning business, we read the story "Penguin Chick." Then at language arts centers, we cut and pasted some penguins of our own. At my table, we read "Pam" and wrote letters to Iris, our Star of the Week. The other groups had secret centers. After snack and recess, we did some oral blending, focusing on initial sounds. Then we recited "Jack and Jill" and had math. In math, we listened to stories and tried to figure out if we needed to add or subtract two numbers. Then we worked with a partner to solve them. It was a bit of a challenge, but we did pretty well!

After lunch, we read two stories and then had mixing with Mr. Duffy. My group discussed animals and drew an animal and then described where it was. When we got back, we had Star of the Week. Iris shared some beautiful photographs and then took questions and comments from the class. We had P.E. on the kindergarten yard with balls and hula hoops next. When we came back in, we had art. Our lesson was on "The Shape of My Family." Students drew their family and used oil pastels to color in their picture. To end the day, we counted super star sticks and said our good-byes to Jenny. Today was her last day at Third Street. We wish Jenny and her family the best. They will be missed!

Remember to finish and look over homework packets so that they can be turned in tomorrow!
