Layers of the Earth and "Steal the Bacon"

Another fast paced day in Room 2!  We began with morning business. Then our Star of the Week, Iris, read the book "Pete the Cat Goes to the Beach"to the class. I also read the short story "R is for Rabbit." For language arts centers, independent tables worked on an "R" phonics page and sentences. My groups worked on a math assessment and a Dr. King coloring page. The other two groups had secret centers. After snack and recess, we did some oral blending and reviewed our poem "Jack and Jill." We also had math. We worked on reading and writing subtraction sentences.

After lunch, we discussed our Treasures theme of Animals. We read a book on penguins and did some "rhyme and chime" activities. Then we broke into groups for ELD. My group read  pre-decodables, discussed favorite animals, and created a circle map with animal words and pictures. Then we had a quick recess. For science, we reviewed the layers of the Earth: Crust, mantle, and core. Then we used clay to create our own Earth model that showed those three layers. Hopefully, it made it home!  Then we went to P.E. with Coach Angel. He taught the class how to play "Steal the Bacon." It's a game where students get assigned a number and have to race to pick up the beanbag "bacon" before the person with the same number on the other team. Next, we went to the library. Mr. K read us "The Little Red Hen." To end the day, we read Iris' favorite book "Hello Kitty: Show and Tell" and then lined up for home. As you can see, it was a busy day!

On a sad note, tomorrow will be Jenny's last day in Room 2.  Her family is moving. So be sure to say "good-bye" to her and her family when you see them on Thursday!
