More With V and Seeds

We had a busy Tuesday in Room 203. We began our day with our morning activities and HWT. We read "Vera Viper's Valentine" and came up with some more "V" words. We don't have Road to Reading this week, so we had Writer's Workshop. We are starting a new unit on "How-To" writing, so we tried to write "How to Catch a Leprechaun." We will learn more ways to improve our writing, but most of our class gave a very good effort writing their story. After snack and recess, we read a book on seeds and had ELA Workshop. My groups looked at real seeds. We compared lima beans that were dry and those that had been soaking. We saw the differences before we opened them up to see their parts. We saw the seed coat, little plant, and food storage (or seed leaf) in the seed. Independently, students worked on "V" phonics and sentences. We also visited a secret center.

After lunch, we reviewed our sight words, recited "There Was a Crooked Man," and reviewed more phonics skills. We took a look at the magic, or silent "e" and how it changes the vowel sound in a word. Next we went to our Tuesday specials. In Library, we read a David Shannon book with Mr Withers and checked out a book. In Spanish, we worked with music to get a 100% with Sra. Colmenero and earn a sticker. In P.E. we ran an obstacle course and had some cardio games with Mr. Simatic. When we returned, we reviewed what we know about George for Star of the Week. He forgot his toys to share, so we read an issue of Time for Kids together to end the day. Then we packed up, reviewed homework and lined up for home.
