Making a Wooden Raft

We had another fun Friday in Room 203. We began the day by collecting homework and taking care of our morning activities. We read "A Mule Named Sugar Cube" and had HWT. After Road to Reading, we reread "Corduroy" and wrote what happened in the story using a picture to help us. After snack, we went to Spanish. We talked more about food, the days of the week, and "The Very Hungry Caterpillar."At P.E., we had more gymnastics activities with Mr. Simatic. When we got back to the room, we had science. We reviewed what we know about wood and tried to get different types of wood to sink. We couldn't do it, so we figured we may need to soak them longer in water next time. Next, we tried to make a raft that would float in water and support objects stacked on it. It was fun working with a partner! There were definitely some interesting designs, too. All of the rafts floated, but only one could hold objects without tipping.

After lunch, we reviewed all 50 of our sight words and recited "Little Boy Blue." Then we had math. After a "sprint" with numbers 0-5, we focused on number bonds. We told stories, identified numbers in the story and found the missing number in the number bond. For Star of the Week, Gabriel shared some pictures and told a funny joke. We also read the letters we wrote to him. After our afternoon recess, we ended the day with art. We used geometric and free form shapes to create a space creature using pencils, oil pastels, and watercolors. They look cool! Then we cleaned up, packed up Friday Folders, awarded prizes for twenty super star sticks, and lined up for home.

Have a great weekend! Don't forget to keep working on our 100 minute March Madness reading challenge and the Leprechaun Trap project for next week!
