The Snowy Day

We had a nice Wednesday in Room 203. We began the day with our morning activities and HWT. Then we read the story "The Snowy Day" by Ezra Jack Keats and discussed the beginning middle, and ending of the story.  Together we came up with sentences to describe or retell the story. We did a good job!  After snack and recess, we read "Monkey's Miserable Monday" and had ELA Workshop. Students worked on "m" phonics and sentences while I pulled groups to read "We Like Sam!" and make our own "Snowy Day" pictures. I also started some ELA assessments for our next conference. And of course we visited another secret center.

After lunch, we recited "Little Miss Muffet," reviewed our sight words, and had math. We did some number fluency exercises before introducing measurement. We compared objects using the words taller and shorter and longer and shorter. To end the day, we had Second Step with Ms. J.C. and Mrs. Z. We discussed managing frustration. We talked about calming down by stopping, naming our feeling, and then breathing, counting, or using self talk to calm down and solve our problem.  Then we packed up, reviewed homework, and lined up for home.
