Writing With Pictures, Writing With Prompts
We had a good Wednesday in Room 203. We began our day with our morning activities, HWT, and Road to Reading. Then we read "Creak! Said the Bed" and had Writer's Workshop. We used the book as an introduction into writing a true story using illustrations. Then we made a story that had a beginning, middle, and end using only pictures. We wanted the details in the pictures to be so specific that it would remind the writer what happened in the story. Tomorrow we will add words, sentences, and speech bubble to make it awesome! After snack and recess, we read "L is for Lobster" and had ELA Workshop. Students identified the first sound in words independently, wrote sentences with the "I play..." prompt with me in their kindergarten journals, and found their secret center. We did a nice job!
After lunch, we recited "Mary Had a Little Lamb" and had math. We reviewed our fifteen flat shapes and described each by sides and corners (or points). Then we looked for rectangles before playing a shape identification game with a partner. To end the day, we had Second Step. We had a lesson on Caring and Helping. Then we packed up our things (a note from office from the PTO went home with each child) and lined up for home.
