Hanukkah Menorahs

We had a nice Tuesday in Room 203. We began the day with our morning activities and HWT. Then we read "Is It Hanukkah Yet?" and learned about the holiday. We also decorated little menorahs using a pattern of colors. After sharing some more Family Winter Holiday Traditions, snack, and indoor recess, we read "Our Eight Nights of Hanukkah" and had ELA Workshop. Students finished their menorahs and added colorful pieces with glue. My groups used paints to decorate our gingerbread boy or girl from last week. Everyone also visited a new secret center. They include: Drawing with markers at the Art Center, LexiaCore5 games at the Computer Center, identifying and exploring with solid shapes at the Math Center, playing dominos at the Mystery Center, writing the numbers from 5 to 10 at the Reading & Writing Center, and looking at animals using ViewFinders at the Science Center.

After lunch, we practiced our songs and shared two more Family Winter Holiday Traditions. At the library, we read a story and checked out books with Mrs. Thomas (Mr. Withers was out today). In Spanish, we learned about a New Year's tradition in Spain and made wishes for the new year. In P.E., we played "reindeer games" with Mr. Simatic. To end the day, we had Reading Buddies. We looked at books with out friends from Mrs. Fogg's fifth grade. Then we packed up, bundled up, and lined up for home!
