The Letter R
We had a fast Tuesday in Room 2. We began the day collecting Friday Folders and with Nutrition. Next we took care of our morning activities. Then we read "My 'R' Book" and brainstormed words that start with "R." At language arts rotations, students worked on "R" handwriting and using crayons, glue, and raisins to make the tactile page "Raisins on 'R's on a Rainbow." My groups read "Sam and Mat" book #1 and wrote out New Year's Resolutions for 2016. The other groups had the last secret center of this rotation. After recess, we went to the Tech Lab. Ms. Castro read "The Gingerbread Man" to the class and had them use wixie.com to help illustrate the parts of the story. When we got back to Room 2, we learned our new sight words for the week, recited our new poem, "Jack and Jill," and reviewed short vowel sounds by singing "Apples and Bananas."
After lunch, we read "I Have a Dream," which is a book that illustrates part of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.s famous speech. We listened to a CD of the real speech, too. We also cut out and put together our New Year's Resolutions mobiles. For Star of the Week, we introduced Ethan. He shared his awesome poster and took questions and comments from the class. For Reading Buddies, our friends from Room 19 helped us tie our mobiles together and read stories with us. Then we packed up, passed out homework packets, and lined up for home. Let's have a great week!
Be sure to look over homework packets for the week! They include permission slips for our first field trip of the year. Please return them with $6.00 to cover trip costs. Parents interested in being a chaperone may sign up on our class door. Also included are January book order forms. Return them by Friday with payment if you're interested.
