Celebrating Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
We had a fun Friday in Room 2. We began the day by collecting homework and having Nutrition. Then we read "Happy Birthday Martin Luther King, Jr." and talked a little more about his life and accomplishments. At language arts rotations, student made a "Human Rights Award" with Dr. King in it. Hopefully they made it home today! My groups read "Go, Go, Go" and wrote a friendly letter to Dominic, our Star of the Week. The other groups had the last secret center of this rotation. After recess, we had math. We worked on subtraction sentences and using the = sign.
After recess, we recited "Jack Be Nimble," reviewed our sight words, and worked on individual sounds in words. Then we read "A Picture Book of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr." The class made a mini-book that showed important moments in his life. For Star of the Week, Dominic had us estimate origami stars. The class made estimate between 19 and 99. There were 72 origami stars. Asher made the best guess of 77! Then we went our for recess on the kindergarten yard. When we came back in, we had a popcorn party! Students ate a cup of popcorn an watched The Magic School Bus Hops Home," which was about animal habitats. To end the day, we packed up Friday Folders, awarded prizes for twenty super star sticks, and gave certificates for an all-green week. Have a great weekend!
Remember that we do not have school on Monday, in honor of Dr. King. See you on Tuesday!
