Native Americans
We had a good Tuesday in Room 2. We began the day with Nutrition and our morning activities. Then we read "The Lamb Who Loved to Laugh" and brainstormed more "L" words. At language arts rotations, students worked on "L" phonics and sentences. My groups made Thanksgiving turkeys. The other groups had secret centers. After recess, we went to the Tech Lab. Ms. Castro had the class play games related to the "more than" and "less than" concepts we use in math. Games included "Balloon Pop Math," "Compare Numbers," and "Greatest/Least." You can always access our games via PlanetBravo.com/thirdstreet/. We also used headphones so that we could hear the games more clearly. Nice! When we returned to Room 2, we recited "Mary Had a Little Lamb" and did some rhyming.
After lunch, we reviewed our letters and sounds and worked on sounding out words. Since Thanksgiving is approaching, we introduced a new theme of "Native Americans." We learned that Native Americans were the first Americans, were farmers, hunters, carvers, artists, and cared about nature. We learned that the crops they grew most often were corn, beans, and squash. Our project was then to make a little corncob in a husk using real corn kernels. They look neat! For Star of the Week, we reviewed what we know about Christopher. Then CJ shared some of his favorite toys including a huge dinosaur, an Incredible Hulk mask, a Spider-Man with a transforming car, a red remote controlled car, another Spider-Man figure, and a trophy from his baseball team. The class liked them a lot. To end the day, we had Reading Buddies with Room 19. Then we packed up, reviewed homework, and lined up for home.
Don't forget that we do not have school tomorrow for the Veterans' Day holiday. You can always use the extra time to catch up on homework, work on PTA Reflections entries, or start Ethnicity Doll projects. Have a great Wednesday!
