R Blends: Br, Cr, and Fr
We had a busy Monday back in Room 2. We began the day by collecting Friday Folders and having a fast Nutrition time outside. Then we went to the Tech Lab. Mr. Scott scheduled us this morning because the Tech Lab will be used for standardized testing for the next month. He had the class work on rhyming words and then some more keyboarding exercises. When we got back to Room 2, we quickly updated our calendar and took care of our morning activities. At language arts rotations, students worked on "R" blends, specifically the "br, cr, and fr" sounds. My groups took the Topic 13 math test and read Sam and Mat book 8. The other groups had their first secret center of this rotation. After recess, we learned our new sight words of the week, practiced our new poem "Rock-A-Bye Baby," and had math. We learned about squares. Then we searched the room for large and small squares and identified them.
After lunch, we introduced our new Treasures theme of "Amazing Creatures." We will focus on insects this week, so I read the story "What Makes an Insect?" We learned what makes an insect: six legs, three body parts (head, thorax, abdomen), two antennae, an exoskeleton, and wings (sometimes). I also read "Ants" before we made an ant. We colored it and put together the three body parts, six legs, and two antennae. They look cool! For Star of the Week, we introduced Amelia. She shared her beautiful poster and took questions from the class. At P.E., we placed a kicking relay game in groups . To end the day, we packed up, passed out homework, had Boyd share a story, and played "Mr. Ricker Says" before lining up for home. Let's have a great week!
Be sure to look over our homework packet for the week. See me if you have any questions or concerns!
