The Digraph Th and Seeds

We had a busy Wednesday in Room 2. We began the day with Nutrition outside and our morning activities. We read "The Thing That Went Thump" and brainstormed more "Th" words. At language arts rotations, students worked on "Th" phonics and sentences. My groups took the Topic 12 math test, read "The Carrot Seed," and wrote what happened in the story. The other groups had secret centers. After recess, we recited "Bedtime" and had math. We worked on sorting objects by one attribute.

After lunch, we read "Seed Secrets" and examined real seeds. We put some lima beans in water overnight to soften them and take them apart. Students used magnifying glasses to look for the parts of a seed: the seed coat, the little plant, and the food storage (or seed leaf). It was fun!  For Star of the Week, Ashley shared some nice toys. She had a school bus, a cash register, some toy fish, and a police car. The class enjoyed them all!  We went to P.E. on the big yard next. Coach Angel had the class play scooter relays. To end the day, we went to the library. Mrs. Singh read "Just Like Me" before we checked out books. Remember that students should bring back these books by next Wednesday. I suggest keeping them in backpacks for safekeeping and easy access at home and at school. We want getting books to be fun, but we also want students to work on being responsible, too. See me if you have any questions or concerns!
