Parts of an Insect, Lighter and Darker Colors

We had a good Thursday in Room 2. We began the day with Nutrition outside and our morning activities. We read "Bugs are Insects" and reviewed what we know about insects. At language arts rotations, students wrote friendly letters to Amelia, our Star of the Week. My groups read Sam and Mat book 9 and discussed the parts of an insect. The other groups had secret centers. After recess, we practiced our sight words, recited "Rock-A-Bye Baby," and had math. We looked at triangles today. We learned what makes a triangle, identified triangles, and searched the room for examples.

After lunch, Sophia read us a story and we had art. We continued the topic of light and dark colors from last week. We used what we learned to create an ocean picture with sea creatures. We made sure to mix and use light and dark colors. It was a little messy, but fun! For Star of the Week, we reviewed what we know about Amelia. She also shared some very nice pictures with the class. To end the day, we watched "The Magic School Bus: Gets Ants in the Pants" as a treat. It seemed appropriate since we've been learning about ants and insects all week. Then we packed up, discussed tomorrow, and lined up for home!

Be sure to finish and check over homework for Friday. Also, wear your class t-shirt, comfortable shoes, and bring a lunch with drink. See you tomorrow!
