The Letter Y
We had a fun Monday back in Room 2. We began our day by collecting Friday Folders and having Nutrition inside because of our rainy weather. After taking care of our morning activities, we read "My 'X, Y, Z' Book" through the letter "Y" and brainstormed some "Y" words. At language arts rotations, students worked on correct "Y" handwriting and used crayons, glue, and yarn to make the tactile page "Yarn on 'Y's on a Yo-Yo." My groups took the Topic 10 math test and read Sam and Mat book 5. We are really improving at our reading fluency! The other groups had secret centers. After recess, we learned our new sight words, recited our new poem "Yankee Doodle," and had math. We worked on parts of 11, 12, and 13. We used counters to break numbers into two parts, with one group being ten. We also used counters to help.
After recess, we edited two sentences together before reading "The Missing Tooth" and learning about teeth. We found out that we all start out with twenty primary teeth. Then students counted to see how many teeth they have now. We will learn more about teeth as the week progresses. Then we introduced Chloe as our Star of the Week. She brought in a cool poster to share and took questions from the class. After P.E. on the kindergarten yard, we ended the day with some Read Across America activities. Today would have been Dr. Seuss' 111th birthday, so we read some Dr. Seuss books, made a Dr. Seuss mini-book, did a Dr. Seuss word find, and got a "Cat in the Hat" page to color. Then we cleaned up, got our homework packets, and lined up for home. Let's have a great week!
Be sure to look over homework packets for the week. If you haven't sent in your "Homework for Parents" or signed up for a P/T conference, please do so ASAP!
