The Digraph Ch
We had a good Monday back in Room 2. We began the day by collecting Friday Folders and with Nutrition outside. After morning activities, we read "Chimp and Chick's Lunch" and brainstormed some "ch" words. As you may have noticed, we finished the letter of the alphabet last week, so we will move onto digraphs for the next four weeks. This week will be the "ch" digraph. At language arts rotations, students worked on "ch" handwriting and used crayons, glue, and tortilla chips to make the tactile page "Chips on 'ch' on Cheese." My groups made St. Patrick's Day cartoons. We wrote the words to a silly, six-panel story with a leprechaun. The other groups had secret centers. After recess, we practiced our new sight words, learned our new poem "Wee Willie Winkie," and had math. We compared the height of different objects. We also found objects taller and shorter than ourselves by exploring the room.
After lunch, we edited two sentences, read a story, and discussed the weather. We wrote final draft versions of the poems we wrote last week, as well. They're a lot of fun! Then we introduced Boyd as our "Star of the Week." He shared his fantastic poster and took questions from the class. We had P.E. on the kindergarten yard next. It was interrupted by a lockdown drill. It was only a couple of minutes, but the class did a nice job getting inside and following directions. To end the day, we finished our weather cloud projects. We cut them out, stuffed them, added a lightning bolt, and rain. Then we packed up, passed out homework folders, and lined up for home. Let's have a great week!
Be sure to look over homework packets for the week. Note that the prospective kindergarten tour for incoming parents is this Thursday. The Walk-A-Thon will be on Friday. Our time will be 1:30-2:00 P.M. If you're interested in helping out, please let me know! Finally, remember that Open House will be next Thursday, March 26th from 5:30-6:30 P.M. Be sure to mark it on your calendar!
