The Five Senses
We had a very busy and science-filled day this Thursday in Room 2. We started with our morning business, read "The Thing That Went Thump," and brainstormed more "th" words. For language arts rotations, students wrote a letter to Ryker, our Star of the Week. My groups reviewed "The Tiny Seed" and wrote what happened in the story. The other groups had secret centers. After snack and recess, we shared more Science Fair projects. I was very impressed with all of the wonderful projects!
After lunch, we reviewed the five senses and read a book on smell. We completed the next page in "My Sense Book" about smell, adding cinnamon to the picture. For Star of the Week, Ryker read part of a book on dinosaurs and shared some nice family pictures. Then we went out to the big yard for P.E. When we returned, we continued science and did a smell experiment. Students used their noses to try and figure out the secret smell placed inside of a balloon. They were hard for some students because the colors didn't match the smell, which was the point. Some students were able to identify four of the five odors: strawberry, vanilla, orange, and peppermint. Only banana eluded us. Then we cleaned up the room, packed up our things, sang "Happy Birthday" to Luke, and headed for home!
Don't forget to complete and bring in homework packets tomorrow. Also, our field trip is tomorrow. Wear comfortable shoes, your class t-shirt, and bring a lunch (with drink) for the day!
