Seeds and Parachutes

It was a hot day today in Room 2. Summer seems to want to come early this year, doesn't it? We began our day with morning business and brainstorming "wh" words. Then we read a book called "The Carrot Seed." At language arts rotations, students worked on "wh" phonics and sentences. My groups read "The Carrot Seed" again and then wrote about what happened in the beginning, middle, and end. When we finished, we looked at the progress our our lima bean seeds. The other groups had secret centers. After snack and recess, we recited "Oh Where, Oh Where Has My Little Dog Gone?" and had math. Today we learned about circles. We described them (0 sides, 0 corners, perfectly round) and tried to find examples in the classroom.

After lunch, we practiced our sight words and had mixing with Mr. Duffy's class. My group looked at seeds. We learned the parts of a seed (seed coat, food storage, little plant) and how a seed turns into a plant. Students even took apart lima bean seeds  and examined them with magnifying glasses to better see their parts. For Star of the Week, Samara read her favorite book, "The Giving Tree," to the class. She did a great job! Then we went out for P.E. Coach Angel had us play parachute games. We played mouse trap, hid underneath, made waves, and even tried to shake rubber chickens around the parachute. It was fun!  To end the day, we went to the library. Mr. K read "The Voyage" in "Grasshopper On the Road." Then we returned to Room 2, packed up our things, and lined up for home!
