More with "Th" and The Tiny Seed
We had a busy Wednesday preparing for Open House in Room 2. We started by taking care of morning business, which included searching for Zero Heroes. Then we read the story "The Tiny Seed" by Eric Carle. At language arts rotations, students worked on "th" phonics and wrote sentences with "th" words. My groups reviewed "The Tiny Seed" and made a mini-book where we wrote what happened in the beginning, middle, and end of the story. The other groups started our new secret centers, which include: Using markers to make a flower (Art Center), playing games at Starfall.com and abcya.com (Computer Center), Addition practice (Math Center), Animals, blocks, and gears (Play Center), and Writing sentences in an "All About Plants" book (Writing Center). After snack (which included a Zero Hero treat) and recess, we recited "Bedtime" and had math. We worked with a partner to make picture graphs.
After lunch, we read "The Bright Yellow Flower" and worked on some plant art. We used the petals, stems, and leaves we sponge painted last week to cut and create a large colorful flower like the one in the story. Then we labeled the parts of the plant on the picture. We plan on putting them on display for Open House. For Star of the Week, Ryker shared some toys. He had a homemade cheetah, a ball maze, and a motorcycle toy. We went to P.E. next. Coach Angel had the class play "Flag Battles." At the library, Mr. K read us "A New House" and "The Sweeper" from the book "Grasshopper on the Road." Then we packed up our things and lined up for home.
Don't forget that (optional) Science Fair projects are due tomorrow. Also, Open House is from 5:30-6:30 P.M. We hope that you can attend!
