Week Thirty-Six
We had a Spring Sing week in Room 104. We continued the ABC Countdown, performed for our parents at the Spring Sing, and wrapped up the plant experiment in our classroom. Let's learn more about our week!
Our ELA Block included new spelling lists. In RUOS, we continued "Series Book Clubs" by choosing a favorite chapter book to report on. We learned the characters, setting, main ideas and events, and more in the story before creating a posterboard of that information. We will continue to work on these projects next week, culminating in a celebration on Thursday morning where we share them with the grade level. In WUOS, we continued "Writing About Reading" unit. We nominated our favorite book for an award. We organized our writing and started listing reasons and examples from the text. We hope to finish them on Monday and hang them with our book report posters! We also had some typing training.
In our afternoon block, we wrapped up our brassica seed experiment, gathered data, and decided that the heat lamp helped the seeds grow the best. We also started a study of habitats by learning about pond life. We will continue with more habitats through the end of the year. In math, we continued module 8 on time, shapes, and fractions. We focused this week on fractions and equal shares. We partitioned circles and quadrilaterals into even halves, thirds, and fourths, and identified shaded fractions. We also practiced writing fractions. We will examine more with fractions and tell time next week!
We also had our specials. We finished projects in Art with Ms. Sundquist. We rehearsed in the auditorium for the Spring Sing in Music with Ms. Altshuler. We reviewed different topics in Spanish with Sra. Colmenero. We read a story and checked out books in the library. We played soccer in P.E. with Mr. Simatic. We also had Book Buddies with Mr. Manus' class on Friday.
And of course, we had the Spring Sing on Tuesday. The class looked good in their class t-shirts and did a really nice job at the performance at night. Thank you to all of the parents that were able to attend. We appreciate it!
Next week will include our last homework packet and spelling test of the year. Wow! We are getting close to summer, aren't we? Have a great weekend!
