Week Thirty-Four
We had a busy week in Room 104. We had a field trip and MAP testing. Let's learn more about our week!
Our ELA Block included new spelling lists. In RUOS, we continued "Series Book Clubs" by reading and discussing characters, events, predicting, and looking at how authors precise language to make their books extraordinary. In WUOS, we continued "Writing About Reading" unit. We practiced organizing and writing good paragraphs with an introduction, reasons supporting our opinion, an example of that reason, and a conclusion. We wrote about our reading books and about our field trip. The biggest event of our mornings was MAP testing. We spent Wednesday and Thursday trying our best at Math and Reading problems. I saw a lot of growth in the initial numbers, which is great news! A detailed report should arrive before the end of the year and will be included in your child's report card.
In our afternoon block, we continued our final science unit on "Insects and Plants." We checked in on our brassica seed and caterpillar experiments. Both are progressing along! We also discussed seed dispersal and found ways that seeds get moved or travel to new places. In math, we began module 8 on time, shapes, and fractions. We were introduced to polygons and spent the week drawing and identifying different polygons. We counted sides and angles to find triangles, quadrilaterals, pentagons, and hexagons. We will continue more next week!
We also had our specials. We glazed our dinosaur clay figures in Art with Ms. Sundquist. We practiced in the auditorium for the Spring Sing in Music with Ms. Altshuler. We continued dialogue and discussions in Spanish with Sra. Colmenero. We read a story and checked out books with Mr. Withers in the library. We played some cool games in P.E. with Mr. Simatic. We also had Book Buddies with Mr. Manus' class on Friday. And of course, we had that awesome trip to the Chicago Botanic Gardens on Tuesday!
Next week we will be finishing up our insects and plants unit in science, we will work on some Mother's Day projects, and we will BAS test on Tuesday. Have a great weekend!
