Week Thirty-Seven
We had a fast week in Room 104. We worked on our book report projects, continued the ABC Countdown, and finished up our reading and writing units for the year. Let's learn more about our week!
Our ELA Block included our last spelling lists and some more typing training. We're getting good! In RUOS, we finished our "Series Book Clubs" by putting the last details on our posters and decorating them for display. The entire second grade put them out for others to see on Thursday and they looked great! We also read more from "More Stories Julian Tells" and took our summative assessment on Friday to wrap up the unit. In WUOS, we finished the "Writing About Reading" unit. We completed our book nomination opinion writing and edited it for display. We also chose a new opinion topic and wrote a detailed paragraph for Mr. Ricker. Next week we will work on end of the year writing topics and maybe a pamphlet for future second graders!
In our afternoon block, we learned more about habitats. We studied the intertidal zone, kelp forest, and coral reef by looking at books, videos, and making pictures. Next week we plan on looking at temperate forests and deserts. In math, we continued module 8 on time, shapes, and fractions. We focused on telling time this week. We divided the clock into equal shares to see what "quarter past, " "half past," and "quarter to" means on a clock. We also looked at time to the minute and A.M. and P.M. Next week will finish up the module and take our last test.
We also had our specials. We brought home glazed dinosaurs and free choice Art with Ms. Sundquist. We sang some fun songs in Music with Ms. Altshuler. We asked questioned to one another (Quien es?) in Spanish with Sra. Colmenero. We read a story and brought back our books in the library. We played more fun games in P.E. with Mr. Simatic. We also had our final Book Buddies with Mr. Manus' class on Friday. We had a scavenger hunt on the playground. Cool!
Next week we don't have school on Monday in observance of Memorial Day. We will spend the week looking back on our year in second grade and ahead to our year in third grade. We also have Olympic Day next Friday. It should be a lot of fun. Have a fantastic three-day weekend!
