Week Thirty-Five
We had a good week in Room 104. We continued the ABC Countdown, had a visit from the Oak Park Fire Safety Trailer, and had butterflies emerge in our classroom. Let's learn more about our week!
Our ELA Block included new spelling lists. In RUOS, we continued "Series Book Clubs" by reading and discussing characters, events, predicting, and looking at how authors precise language to make their books extraordinary. In WUOS, we continued "Writing About Reading" unit. We practiced organizing and writing good paragraphs with an introduction, reasons supporting our opinion, an example of that reason, and a conclusion. We will move onto a book report project next week as we continue reading favorite chapter books.
In our afternoon block, we finished our final science unit on "Insects and Plants." We checked in on our brassica seed and caterpillar experiments. The ants under the lamp began to flower, and six butterflies emerged from their chrysalis. We also reviewed plants, seed dispersal, and pollination before taking our unit quiz. We move onto habitats next week. In math, we continued module 8 on time, shapes, and fractions. We continued to identify polygons before creating our own with shapes. We also introduced fraction (and even parts). We will continue more with fractions and equal parts next week!
We also had our specials. We finished projects in Art with Ms. Sundquist. We practiced in the auditorium for the Spring Sing in Music with Ms. Altshuler. We reviewed community and other topics in Spanish with Sra. Colmenero. We checked out books with Mrs. Frost in the library. We played soccer in P.E. with Mr. Simatic. We also had Butterfly Buddies with Mr. Manus' class on Friday, where we released our insect friend to the world. And of course, we visited the Oak Park Fire Safety Trailer on Wednesday!
Next week we will have the Spring Sing on Tuesday. Have a great weekend!
