The "Wh" Digraph

We had a pretty good Monday in Room 2. We began the day by collecting Friday Folders, having Nutrition, and taking care of our morning activities. Then we read the book "Butterfly Spring" before brainstorming "wh" words. At language arts rotations, students worked on "wh" handwriting and using crayons, glue, and wagon wheel pasta to make the tactile page "Wheels on 'Wh' on a Whistle." This will be our last tactile page of the year. My groups worked on ELA opinion writing by creating a story telling which animal makes the best pet - a cat or a dog. The other groups had their last secret center of this rotation. After recess, we had math. We used attribute blocks to model shapes in the world. We used squares, rectangles, triangle, circles, and hexagon to create pictures.

After lunch, we learned our new sight words, recited "Oh Where, Oh Where Has My Little Dog Gone," and  reviewed our phonetic alphabet. We also took care of Pierra's estimation from Friday that we couldn't get to because of the field trip. Pierra had us estimate Lalaloopsy dolls. The class made estimates between 15 and 99. There were 18 Lalaloopsy dolls. Kaia guessed it exactly! Then we watched "The Butterfly and the Bog Beast" to wrap up our study of butterflies. For Star of the Week, we introduced Sam. He shared his cool poster and took questions from the class. After P.E. on the big yard, we read "butterflies" and decorated butterfly cut-outs with oil pastels. They look awesome!  Then we packed up, passed out homework, and lined up for home. Let's have a great week!

Be sure to look over homework packets for the week! Don't forget to get started on those animal report and diorama projects, which are due on May 18. You should have picked your wild animal and found a box for the diorama.

Lastly, I will send home information about our final field trip next week. Look for it!
