Bees
We had a rainy Friday in Room 2. We began the day by collecting homework, having Nutrition, and taking care of our morning activities. Next, we read "Bees" and "The Happy Bee" and discussed what we know about bees. At language arts rotations, students made a yellow bee with black stripes and wings. My groups took the chapter 10 math test and read Sam and Mat book #7. The other groups had their first secret center of this rotations. They include: Using twist crayons to color hidden insects at the Art Center, Lexia reading activities at the Computer Center, "The Very Lazy Ladybug" by Isobel Finn at the Listening Center, teddy bear addition practice at the Math Center, and animals, blocks, magni-tiles, and unifix cubes at the Play Center. Around 9:10, we stopped during our rotations to go to a Fire Safety assembly in the auditorium. The class learned what to do in case of a fire. They also reminded the class to have a fire drill plan at home in case of an emergency. When we got back to Room 2, we finished our first center and had a short indoor recess. Next, we went to Room 21 to meet our friends in Ms. Yuki's class. We sang a few songs together and got some free play with her students.
After lunch, we reviewed all of our sight words (all 80!), recited "Wee Willie Winkie," read "The Itsy Bitsy Spider," and finished up our language arts rotations from the morning. For Star of the Week, Olive had us estimate ShopKins. The class made guesses between 17 and 99. There were 99 ShopKins. Jack got it exactly! We ended the day with math. We reviewed squares and rectangles. We compared them and counted their sides and vertices. Next, we identified both shapes and made a picture using only squares and rectangles. Then we packed up Friday Folders, awarded prizes for twenty super star sticks, and passed our certificates for an all-green week. Have a nice weekend!
