Butterflies

We had a nice Friday in Room 2. We began the day by collecting homework, having Nutrition inside, and taking care of our morning activities. Next, we read "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" and learned about the life cycle of a butterfly. At language arts rotations, students colored, cut, and sequenced the story of a butterfly from egg to caterpillar to cocoon to butterfly. They look great! My groups started making a "Life Cycle of a Butterfly" art project that will show all four stages. We will finish them next week. The other groups had secret centers. After recess, we had math. We worked more on patterning today. We used unifix cubes to make AB and AAB patterns before recreating them with crayons on paper. Students then created their own patterns.

After lunch, we reviewed all our sight words, recited "Come to the Window," and read 'Grasshoppers." We also finished our math patterns from the morning and read books with a partner. For Star of the Week, Peter had us estimate blocks. The class made guesses between 13 and 99. There were 60 blocks. Stella made the best estimate of 63. After some P.E. on the big yard, we ended the day by learning what a noun is. Each student came up with an example of a person, place, or thing and illustrated them. Then we packed up Friday Folders, awarded prizes for twenty super star sticks, and gave out certificates for an all-green week. Have a great weekend!
