More with E and Elmer the Elephant

We had a nice Friday in Room 2. We began the day by collecting homework and having Nutrition outside. Then we read "Queen Bee's Scream" and talked about the "long e" sound.  At language arts rotations, students worked on "long e" phonics and words. My groups wrote "I can..." sentences in our kindergarten journals. The other groups had their first secret center in our new rotation. They include: Drawing friends or family with oil pastels in the Art Center, playing games at PlanetBravo.com and Starfall.com at the Computer Center, listening to "Friend Frog" by Alma Flor Ada at the Listening Center, writing the numbers from 0 to 10 at the Math Center, and playing with Crystal Climbers, Legos, Ocean Animals, and Unifix Cubes at the Play Center.  After recess, we had math. We counted numbers to ten and determined if they were more, less, or equal to one another.

After recess, we recited "Peter, Peter, Pumpkin Eater" and sang "I'm a Little Teapot." We also read "Elmer and the Lost Teddy" and had art. We made elephants like Elmer (or his cousin Wilbur) using colorful tissue paper and wet glue. It was a little messy, but fun!  When we were done, we read "Elmer and the Kangaroo," too.  After some free recess on the kindergarten yard, we ended the day with a popcorn party!  We ate a cup of popcorn and watched more "Sam and Mat." Then we packed up Friday Folders, passed our certificates for an all-green week, and lined up for home. Have a great weekend!

Don't forget to start work on those "All About Me" books, which are due October 6th. Also, remember that the Back to School Breakfast is this Tuesday, September 29th. My presentation will be in Room 2 from 8:00-8:30 A.M.
