More With P and The Shape of Me
We had a fast Thursday in Room 2. We began the day with Nutrition and morning activities. We read "P is for Panda." My friend Mr. Benitez (a teacher in Room 20) stopped by and brought us a pineapple since he knew we were studying the letter "P." He told us how to spot a good pineapple and told us the benefits of eating healthy. Then he cut up the pineapple using a very cool tool that cored the pineapple and made it look like a spiral, or slinky toy. He let us keep it so everyone could have some to taste, too! Thank you Mr. Benitez! At language arts rotations, students worked on "P" phonics and "P" word sentences. My groups wrote a friendly letter to Kayla, our Star of the Week. The other groups had secret centers. After recess, we recited "Little Bo-Peep," practiced our sight words, and had math. We worked on stories that take away. We also learned that the answer to a subtraction problem is called a "difference."
After lunch, we shared Hudson and Jayden's Ethnicity Dolls. They did a nice job! For art, we continued our study of shapes. We looked at the shape of people, and ourselves. We sketched ourselves in pencil using free form shapes. It was challenging, but I think that everyone tried very hard and did a good job! Then we traced and colored them in using oil pastels. For Star of the Week, Kayla shared some very nice family photographs. We had P.E. on the big yard before finishing our art when we got back. We used watercolors to fill in the background. Then we cleaned up, packed up, and lined up for home.
Don't forget to finish and check over homework packets for tomorrow!
