Shadows
We had a fast paced Wednesday in Room 2. We began with our morning activities, which included finding ten Zero Heroes because it was the twentieth day of school. We also read "D is for Duck" and came up with some "D" words. At language arts rotations, students did a cut and paste "D" phonics page and wrote "D" words on the back. My groups wrote in our kindergarten journals about things we like. Miss Esther helped out, too, so I could continue initial DIBELS testing. The other groups had secret centers. After snack and recess, we recited "Hey Diddle Diddle" and had math. We worked on ordering numbers 0 to 5.
After lunch, we read "The Colors of Us" and sang the songs "Colors" and "Shapes." Then we read two poems about family and talked with a partner about our families. For science, we read a story called "Shadows" and learned what you need to make a shadow. Then we went outside and used 1.) light, 2) something to block the light, and 3.) a surface for the shadow to fall on to make our own shadows. It was fun! When we came in, we made a mini-book where we identified objects that were making a shadow. We had a few minutes of afternoon snack and recess on the kindergarten yard before going to P.E. Coach Angel taught us how to play four-wheel scooter relay. After a water break, we went to the library. There, Mrs. Singh read "Bear Shadow" and Olivia Saves the Circus." We ended the day by cleaning Room 2, packing up, and reviewing our homework. See you tomorrow!
