Elmer the Elephant
We had a great Friday in Room 2. We began by collecting homework and having Nutrition. Then we took care of our morning activities and read "Elmer" by David McKee. Elmer is a brightly colored patchwork elephant that has adventures. At language arts rotations, students tried to recreate Elmer's patchwork look using glue and brightly colored tissue paper. My groups wrote about the people in their family. The other groups had secret centers. After recess, we recited "Peter, Peter, Pumpkin Eater" and had math. We worked on reading and writing 8 and 9.
After lunch, we read "Elmer and the Lost Teddy." Then we used crayons, rulers, and our imagination to make more colorful elephants. Some were patchwork like Elmer, while some were different designs similar to the other elephants in the "Elmer Day Parade." We had afternoon snack and P.E. on the kindergarten next. When we came back in, we read "Elmer and the Kangaroo" to complete Friday's "Elmer" trilogy. To end the day, we watched "Harold in the Dark" and had a cup of popcorn for a good week. Then we packed up our Friday Folders and things for home, played a quick game of "Mr. Ricker Says," passed out certificates for an all green week, and lined up for home.
Have a great weekend! Don't forget to get started on those "All About Me" books, which are due on October 7th.
