Families and a Fire Drill
We had a busy Friday in Room 2. We began our day by collecting homework packets and by meeting our new student, Sophia. That means we have 25 students now, 13 boys and 12 girls. We took care of morning activities next. We're starting the first theme in our California Treasures reading program, Families. Appropriately, we read a story called "Families." At language arts rotations, students made "dolls" showing all the members of their family. They're cute! My groups wrote in our kindergarten journals about things we like. The other groups had secret centers. After snack and recess, we recited "Hickory, Dickory, Dock," did some rhyming, and had math. We worked with a partner to identify as much, more, and fewer counting blocks.
After lunch, we read "Numbers" and sang both "Colors" and "Shapes." Then we talked about safety at school. We knew that we were going to have a fire drill, so we practiced safely lining up and getting our emergency backpack. We also practiced for an earthquake by safely getting under our desks. We did a nice job! Then we had our popcorn party! We earned yet another one this week for following directions. We ate a cup of popcorn and watched "The Magic School Bus Makes a Rainbow" since we've been talking about light and colors in class. As we were lining up for P.E., the fire drill alarm rang. We quickly went out to the big yard with the rest of the school and listened to our principal Dr. Oh. When we came back, we had our P.E. on the kindergarten yard using bouncy balls. Then we came in and packed up our Friday Folders and other things for home. I read a quick story ("Clifford Keeps Cool") and passed out certificates for an all green week. Enjoy your weekend!
