The Letter P and the Book Fair
We had a lot going on in Room 2 today. We started off with our morning business. Then we read "My P Book" and brainstormed "P" words, as we usually do. For language arts rotations, we read "A Map" and made the tactile page "Popcorn on Ps on a Pumpkin." At my table we read Sam and May Book 3 and took the math topic 7 test. Other groups had secret centers. At 9:00, we tried to attend a performance in the auditorium, but there wasn't any room, so we came back and finished our rotations. After snack and recess, we learned our new poem "Little Bo-Peep." Then we went back for another try to attend a later performance of "The Grinch" by room 17, Mrs' Caruso's third grade class. The students enjoyed it!
After lunch, we shared Abbie's Ethnicity Doll, and got ready for mixing. All kindergarten classes will begin mixing for language and language arts development. Our class will be mixing with Mr. Duffy's room 10. We had an introductory lesson, learned some names, worked with a partner, read, and sang a song. When we got back, we did a super-quick math page to start topic 8 on subtraction. Then we learned about Ethan, our new Star of the Week. He showed his very cool poster and took questions and comments. At 1:00, we attended the Scholastic Book Fair in the library. Students got to look around and make wish lists. The fair is open all week: before, during, and after school. After the Book Fair, we had P.E. on the big yard. When we got back, we practiced our "P" handwriting, wrote sentences, and shared Samara's Ethnicity Doll. Then we packed up, passed out homework folders, and lined up for home.
Be sure to look over the homework, as it includes a note about a Music performance next Wednesday and upcoming Eco-Station classes in January and February. Also, don't forget that Ethnicity Dolls are due THIS Wednesday. Finish the doll, writing, and make sure your child is ready to share with the class. Let's have a great week!
