Native American Art
Our day began with morning business and a book on Thanksgiving. It also included a manic search for the ten hidden Zero Heroes to mark our sixtieth day in kindergarten. When we went to language arts rotations, we created a Native American canoe. We decorated them (some students used symbols, others shapes and colors), cut them out, and then sewed them. It was hard work, but they came out nice! At my table, we wrote a letter to Basia. Other groups had secret centers. After snack (complete with Zero Hero treat) and recess, we had math. We reviewed counting by 1s, 2s, and 10s. Then we tried to identify number patterns and fill in the missing number. It went pretty well, but we could definitely use a little more practice.
After lunch, we recited "Mary Had a Little Lamb." Then we read a book about Squanto and the first Thanksgiving. For a project, we decorated a totem pole. It took awhile, so we took a break for Star of the Week. Basia showed us some beautiful family photos. At P.E. we played "Red Light, Green Light." When we came back in, I showed students hot to cut out and attach our totem pole design to a paper towel roll. They even have wings and a beak! We'll be putting them up on our new bulletin board tomorrow if you want to check them out. Then we cleaned up and got ready for home.
Don't forget to finish up your homework packet for Friday!
