The First Day of Kindergarten!

Wednesday was the first day of Kindergarten! We had a busy day meeting friends and learning new routines. Our morning included reading books like "Look Out Kindergarten, Here I Come!" that involve the first day of school. We talked a little about our feelings and read "The Kissing Hand" to make us feel better about our day. We also ate a morning snack, toured the school, and had recess.
When we came back in, we sang "Who Took the Cookies From the Cookie Jar?" to learn some of our friends names. Then we found a friend to play with in class using puzzles, blocks, or manipulatives for imaginative play.

After lunch (and lunch recess), we talked about our daily calendar and sang some songs. We read more stories about the first day of school before brainstorming things we hope to do this year in kindergarten. We drew and tried to write (with Mr. Ricker's help) one thing we hope to do this year. Answers included: learned to read and write, play, learn Spanish, and go on field trips. We snuck in a little extra play time before ending the day at an all school assembly in the auditorium. Mr. E welcomed everyone and introduced us to new staff and students. We had to rush a little to get our backpacks and pack up. Students took home their green homework folder for the first time. Please look it over. This week's homework is just for parents, so please complete it for Friday. I hope that everyone had a great first day! See you tomorrow!
