Cinnamon Ornaments

We had a good Wednesday in Room 203.  We began our day practicing the letter "X" in our HWT workbooks. For Reader's Workshop, we used patterns to sing out our books. We really liked books like "Panda Bear, Panda Bear, What Do You See?" that begin sentences the same way each time. We followed that by singing the alphabet song, reviewing letter sounds, and reading "Yoko." We also worked with Mr. Ricker to make some cinnamon ornaments. We made the dough yesterday, so today we rolled it out and cut out shapes. They smell great! Next, we had our last Road to Reading for the year. We finished assessments and will make new groups in the new year. After snack and recess, we went to Spanish. Sra. Colmenero had the class learn more about shapes.

After lunch, we reviewed our poem "I'm a Little Snowman" and read two holiday stories. Next we worked on some phonics review while the groups that hadn't gotten a chance to make cinnamon ornaments got their turn. For Star of the Week, Ben S. shared two books. First he read "Should I Share My Ice Cream?' At the end of the day, he shared "There's Something There!" The class liked them both!  We ended the day with Second Step. We had a lesson on managing frustration. We learned to stop, name our feeling, take a belly breath, and calm down. Then we packed up, reviewed homework, and lined up for home.
