The Letter Z...and Caterpillars?
We had a pretty good Monday in Room 203. We began the day by collecting Friday Folders and taking care of our morning activities. They include: sorting lunches, saying the Pledge and BeyeLaws, updating our calendar, counting the days in school, reciting our poem of the week, singing the alphabet song, singing the vowel song, reciting the phonetic alphabet, and morning exercises. We read "My 'X, Y, Z' Book" next and came up with some "Z" words. We also used crayons, glue, and Froot Loops to make the tactile page "Zeroes on 'Z's on a Zero." After Road to Reading, we practiced making neat "Z"s and using them in sentences. After snack and recess, we went to Art. Ms. Sundquist had the class finish up some unfinished skylines and clay projects. When we got back to the room, we shared about our weekend.
After lunch, we learned our new sight words for the week: our, cut, up, get, this. We also recited our new poem, "This Little Piggie," and practiced some phonics skills. In Music we practiced the "Three Piggy Opera" songs and the kindergarten polka dance. For math, we reviewed subtraction. We practiced taking away objects, or crossing them out. We also tried to match pictures to subtraction number sentences. For Star of the Week, we introduced Miles. He shared his cool poster and took questions from the class. We ended the day in the Computer Lab. We got in a few minutes playing LexiaCore5 games. Then we packed up, reviewed our new homework packet for the week, and lined up for home. Let's have a great week!
We will be studying the life cycle of a butterfly this week. The school had order the larvae weeks ago, but it got lost in the mail. They arrived today after school, so I took a few that had entered the chrysalis stage to see if a butterfly will emerge. They may not, but I thought that we could give it a go. Check in here at the blog to see what happens!
