Butterflies! Butterflies! Butterflies!

We had a butterfly Wednesday in Room 203. We began our day by learning that two of our butterflies had emerged from their chrysalis, along with our morning activities. We read "I Am a Caterpillar," too. For Star of the Week, Miles shared his favorite book: "Voyage to the Volcano," a Magic School Bus chapter book. After Road to Reading, we worked on finishing our "Life Cycle of a Butterfly" plates. We traced the stages, glued on an egg, caterpillar, chrysalis, and butterfly, and then added leaves around the edges. They look cool!  While we were working, a third butterfly emerged from its chrysalis! After snack and recess, we read a book called "The Life Cycle of a Butterfly" and had ELA Workshop. We were interrupted by a fire alarm early on, so we stopped to go outside safely. When we returned inside, students independently colored and sequenced the life of a butterfly. My groups wrote sentences about insects in their kindergarten journals. We also visited a secret center.

After lunch, we finished up our Workshop time and finished up our butterfly plates, too. Then we had Second Step with Ms. J.C. We reviewed and practiced ways to handle having things taken away. Then we practiced playing together, using sharing, trading, and taking turns to solve problems. To end the day, we celebrated Jaliyah's birthday. She even gave everyone a gift!  Then we packed up, reviewed homework, and lined up for home.

The class was very excited about the butterflies. We plan on holding onto them until Friday afternoon. We're hoping some more emerge tomorrow!
