A Memorable Friday
We had a memorable Friday in Room 203. We began the day by collecting homework and taking care of our morning activities. One of the butterflies got out when I put an orange in the net, so it was flying around the room for a bit. Miraculously, I was able to catch it and return it to its home safely. Then we sorted a group of insects into two groups: if they had wings or did not have wings. For Star of the Week, Miles shared a silly joke. We also read the letters we wrote to him. Then we went to the American Hero Wax Museum in the Commons. The third grade classes researched projects and presented information to guests as that American Hero. It was neat! When we got back to the room, we had snack and read a Time for Kids together. It was about using ugly but tasty fruit, composting, and Earth Day. At Spanish, we were joined by some friends from Ms. Bretl's class for the remainder of the day. Everything was fine, they were great, but it was a reminder of how nice our regular student/teacher ratio has been this year! We played some fun games in P.E. with Mr. Simatic, and also made Mr. Bones' cousin! To end our morning, we had science. We reviewed the materials we had studied (wood, paper, fabric) before using similar materials to help make things move. We used pipes, cups, and blocks to build structures that would stand and help a ball roll. It was fun!
After lunch, we reviewed sight words, recited "This Little Piggy," and had math. We played Snap! with a partner and worked on subtraction using cubes. At afternoon recess, we let our butterflies go. We had nine of them in the end. We opened up their home to let them fly by the bushes on the playground. A few needed help, but it was a fun experience, to be sure. When we came in, we ended the day with art. We discussed our topic of colors. We named the primary colors (red, blue, yellow) and then the secondary colors (Green, purple, orange). Our project was to cut out primary colored shapes and have them overlap. Then, we took secondary colors and glued them in the space they overlapped. They look pretty nice! Then we packed up Friday Folders and lined up for home. We will have to pass out prizes on Monday, we ran out of time. Have a great weekend!
