Native American Totem Poles
We had a great Tuesday in Room 203. We began the day with our calendar and morning activities. We finished up our science tree pictures from yesterday, too. After Road to Reading, we had Writer's Workshop. We added speech bubbles to our true story writing. We saw that having people talk in our stories made them even better! We will try to continue to add speech bubbles to future writing. After snack and recess, we introduced our theme of Native Americans. We read "The First Thanksgiving" and and talked about the people and life that were there. We learned that the first Americans, Native Americans, were farmers, hunters, carvers, artists, and more. At ELA Workshop, we made totem poles. A totem pole can show a family history, story, or important event. They look cool! Special thanks to Charlotte's mom for helping out! I pulled groups to read "I See the Apple" and assess on letter awareness, too.
Our afternoon was blur. After lunch, we recited "Diddle, Diddle, Dumpling," the letters of the alphabet and vowel sounds. We read a story and check out books in the library with Mrs. Thomas (Mr. Withers was absent). In Spanish, we studied mascotas with Sra. Colmenero. In P.E. we played hockey, partner dribbling, and more with Mr. Simatic. To end the day, we were supposed to have Reading Buddies with our fifth grade friends in Mrs. Fogg's class. Unfortunately, they canceled at the last minute, so we read with a Room 203 friend. Then we reviewed homework, packed up, and lined up for home.
