Canoes

We had a nice Wednesday in Room 203. We began the day with our morning activities, HWT, and Road to Reading. At Writer's Workshop, we chose our favorite narrative story and edited it for Mr. Ricker. Tomorrow we will celebrate our writing.  After snack and recess, we read "Jaguar's Jungleberry Jamboree," brainstormed some more "J" words, and had ELA Workshop. Students tried to identify "J" words and pictures and write a "J" words sentence. I also pulled groups to read a Time for Kids issue about school helpers and assess on numbers.

After lunch, we discussed more about the first Americans, Native Americans. We read "This Earth is Precious" by Chief Seattle, It tells of the importance of respecting and caring for our Earth. We talked about what we know about the history of Native Americans: that they were farmers, hunters, carvers, artists, fished, and cared deeply about the land. As our project, we made canoes with pictures from nature and then sewed them. They look great!  For Second Step, we talked about Empathy and Same and Different Feelings with Ms. J.C. and Mrs. Z. Then we reviewed homework, packed up, and lined up for home.
