The Letter W
We came back from our three-day weekend to some changes in Room 2. We have new seats, nametags, and center groups! Feel free to check them out. After collecting Friday Folders, we had morning business. It included our Zero Hero activities for the 110th day of school. Then we read "My W Book" and came up with "W" words. For language arts centers, we worked on "W" handwriting and made the tactile page "Worms on Ws on a Window." My groups wrote in their journals about their favorite food. The other two groups had new secret centers. After snack and recess, we went to the Tech Lab. Mr. Riko had us work on letter identification and typing skills by playing the "cup stacking game" at abcya.com. When we got back, we learned our new poem "Humpty Dumpty."
After lunch, we had a special guest. Mr. Abrams, who helps in many of the kindergarten rooms, stopped by to share his violin! We originally were going to share it last week to coincide with the letter "V", but we had to reschedule. He showed the class his violin from when he was younger and his new one. He also showed the parts of the violin and how to play it. He played several songs to see if the could recognize and/or clap along. He even let a few students try to play his smaller violin. It was a lot of fun! When we were done, we had math. We worked with a partner to find a pattern in numbers as they go down the number chart (they go up by ten). Then we had reading buddies. Mr. Bassett's class asked us to have play buddies today, so we went out to the big yard to play. When we got back we had Star of the Week. Katie showed her beautiful poster and then took questions from the class. Then we read a book and learned about astronaut Dr. Mae Jemison for African-American History month. The class colored in a picture to finish the lesson. After a little free time, we packed up, got our homework folders, and passed out prizes from Friday. Then we lined up for home. Let's have a great week!
