The Seventeenth Week of Second Grade

I hope that everyone is having a wonderful Winter Break! Let's learn more about our week!

Our ELA block of learning included a new list of words in the Words Their Way spelling program. During Reader's Workshop, we finished up our fairy tale unit by reading more stories like "Hansel and Gretel." We reviewed and assessed setting, plot, character traits, and who is telling the story. In Writer's Workshop, we finished writing, revising, and making a cover for a fractured fairy tale. We also continued cursive handwriting, accessed RAZ-KIDS, SeeSaw, and Lexia on our iPads, in small groups at W.I.N. time.

In Social Studies, we finished our timelines and reviewed terms and concepts from our history unit. We took our final test at the end of the week.

In Math, we finished our module on Foundations of Multiplication and Division. We reviewed equal groups, rows, columns, arrays, plus even and odd numbers. Then we took our end of the module assessment on Thursday. We return to addition and subtraction when we return in January.

We also had Music with Ms. Brown, read, wrote, learned Spanish with Sra. Colmenero, checked out new books in the library, finished Matisse-inspired art with Ms. Sundquist, and had P.E. with Mr. Simatic. We went to a Winter Concert on Thursday to see the orchestra perform. Friday included the Health Fair in the morning, where we learned about learned and had fun. We also had our awesome Fairy tale party Friday afternoon. Students got to make a wand, a gingerbread ornament, a crown, and play fairytale bingo. Special thanks to our parent volunteers for helping out!

Have a great Winter Break!  See you back in Room 104 on Monday, January 6th!
