The Fourteenth Week of Second Grade

We had a short week of learning before the Thanksgiving Break in Room 104. Let's learn more!

Our ELA block of learning included a spelling test to see where the class is on our phonics and spelling. During Reader's Workshop, we took the summative assessment for our non-fiction unit by reading books on the moon and answering questions on genre, main idea, vocabulary, and comparing two texts. We also spent a day celebrating non-fiction by sharing favorites as class "tour guides." In Writer's Workshop, we chose our best informational writing to revise, make a cover and share with others.  We continued our cursive handwriting this week by trying the letter l.

In Social Studies, we learned more about what history is, and looked at examples of the past, present, and future. We also started our own "Past, Present, and Future" books that we will finish next week. Be sure to continue work on your own History Projects! Children may choose one of three options: a family tree, an oral history report, or a report on themselves in the past, present, and future. Good luck!  Projects are due Wednesday, December 11.

In Math, we began  a new module on Foundations of Multiplication and Division. We did two quick lessons on sorting equal groups and trying repeated addition. We will continue more on Monday!

We also had Music with Ms. Brown,  Spanish with Sra. Colmenero,  Library with Mr. Withers, and P.E. with Mr. Simatic. On Tuesday, we (and the other second grades) participated in a Thankful Art program to create art for children in need at the Ronald McDonald House. Students created pipe cleaner dolls and made packages for others to make their own. It was a fun way to give and be thankful!

Have a great weekend!  See you back in Room 104  on Monday!
