Week Nineteen

We had a nice week back in Room 104.  We got a new student and started a bunch of new units in class as we returned to school after Winter Break!

Our ELA Block included new spelling lists and more cursive writing. In RUOS, we began an new  "If/Then" unit called  "Reading Non-Fiction Cover to Cover.". We spent our week finding non-fiction text, identifying main ideas, and reading with a teacher voice. In WUOS, we started a unit on writing lab reports and science books. We wrote one lab report together and began another that we walked through together. We named the materials, question, hypothesis, procedure, data, and conclusion.  We will finish the second one next week. Lastly, we talked about pronouns in language.

In our afternoon block, we spent the week introducing our new science theme of "Pebbles, Sand, and Silt." We started this Earth Science unit by identifying the layers of the Earth and creating our own Earth model out of clay. We also sorted rocks, learned that rocks are made of minerals, and worked in our Geology workbooks. In math, we started module 4 on Addition and Subtraction Within 200. We reviewed strategies to add and subtract by 1 and 10 and learned the arrow way to add and how to use tape diagrams and number bond to help solve problems. We also continued our math centers and workshop.

We also had our specials. We continued Art with Ms. Sundquist.  We had a lot of fun singing in Music with Ms. Altshuler. We wrote silly student stories in Spanish with Sra. Colmenero. We read a story and checked out books with Mr. Withers in the library. We played some new games in P.E. with Mr. Simatic. We also met with our Reading Buddies on Friday.

Finally, we learned about Parker, our Star of the Week, and met our new classmate, Penny. She is very nice and welcome addition to Room 104! Have a great weekend!
