The First Day of Kindergarten

We had a busy and fun first day of kindergarten! We spent much of the morning getting to know each other and some of our new class routines. We read "Look Out Kindergarten, Here I Come!" and talked about our feelings and what we will do this year. As expected, there were a mix of emotions at the start of the day. Fortunately, we all got happier and more comfortable as the day continued. We took a mini-tour and saw our room and parts of the school, including the bathrooms, office, and lunchroom.  We read "Miss Bindergarten Gets Ready for Kindergarten" and shared what we each did to get ready for today. Answers included "Woke up," "Ate breakfast," and "Got my backpack." We had snack and got to go outside for recess, too! We even got a chance to look at books, play with blocks, and play with puzzles with friends.

We ate lunch at 11:55 today. Most of the class was happy to get to eat. Be sure to include a morning snack to help us last until then! We took a bathroom break and went over our school rules before going to visit Miss Hansen for Music. The class had a great time singing and moving!  When we got back to Room 203, we read "Mouse's First Day of School" and created a multi-step project to make a crown celebrating our first day of kindergarten. They're cute!  Hopefully the crown made it home. We ended the day with some social play and a silly song called "Wake Up Toes." I gave out certificates for the first day before we packed up our things and met our parents to go home. I hope to see everyone again tomorrow. Let's have a great year!

Be sure to look in your child's backpack for their green homework folder. Inside will be a newsletter ("The Ricker Report") and homework for the week. This week only includes a parent survey called "Getting to Know Your Child." Please fill out both sides and return it in the folder on Friday. Thanks!

Lastly, Curriculum Night is this Wednesday, August 31st from 6:00-6:45 P.M. in Room 203. We hope to see you there!  PTO will provide babysitting by showing a movie in the auditorium during this time.
