Sharks!

One of our favorite parts of yesterday's field trip to the Aquarium of the Pacific was the sharks. There were baby sharks inside, large tanks that included different sharks (including my personal favorite, the hammerhead), and most impressively, those in the Shark Lagoon exhibit. The Shark Lagoon was located outside and had tanks with larger sharks like the Great White, but it also had pools full of baby sharks. Students were able to pet the baby sharks (with two fingers) as they swam through the shallow water. It was very cool!  There several kinds, too.  Many students noted the similarity of the bonnethead shark to the hammerhead and came rushing to tell me. They even got to pet the mangrove rays that shared the habitat with the sharks. Overall, it was a wonderful experience. When we returned from the trip, I gave every student a small toy shark as a keepsake from our day.
