The Third Week of Second Grade
It was our first full week in Room 104. We continued practicing our routines and digging into our curriculum. Let's learn more!
Our days began with handwriting and our morning morning. We started sharing our All About Me" posters in class. Grace, Cormac, Antonio, Vera, and Abbie went this week. During our ELA block, we were really focusing on reading with bigger scoops and keeping tabs on our comprehension during Reader's Workshop. We tried some retells with "Those Darn Squirrels," "Jamaica's Find," and in our own leveled readers. In Writer's Workshop, we continued to stretch out small moments as we craft paragraphs and stories. We also looked at adding more details! Phonics has centered around vowels and snap words. We've been getting used to independent W.I.N. time, as well. While students work on what they need, the teacher can work with small groups or individual students.
Afternoons included Social Studies, Math, and our specials each day. In Social Studies, we finished our "Where Are We on a Map?" project by identifying the country, continent, and planet we are on. We put all six parts together to make a flip book. Cool! In Math, we continued Module One on making a ten to add with in 100 before subtracting single digit numbers by taking ten out. It was a bit tricky, but we are getting it! We will finish the module next week.We also got to visit Music with Ms. Brown, learn Spanish with Sra. Colmenero, check out books in the library with Mr. Withers, create some Art projects with Ms. Sundquist, and play games in P.E. with Mr. Simatic. Fun!
Finally, we had two assemblies. We had a bus evacuation drill to help teach us how to behave and act on a school bus. Plus, we went for a hearing screening in the auditorium. We initially were going to start MAP Testing, but we moved it to next Monday and Tuesday because of some technology concerns.
Overall it was a productive week. Have a great weekend! See you back in Room 104 on Monday!
