Week Thirty-Two
We had a short week in Room 104. We started Typing Training, began a new science unit on Insects and Plants, and found out who Edward Tulane was. Let's find out more about our week!
Our ELA Block included new spelling lists. We also started Typing Training on Monday. We will work on good keyboarding skills, focusing on where to put our hands and proper technique, rather then speed. We will use ChromeBooks to practice every week between now and the end of the year! In RUOS, we continued our "Series Book Clubs" by reading and discussing our main characters in with each other. We also noted how different books in a series are similar in many ways. In WUOS, we continued "Writing About Reading" unit . We practiced writing good paragraphs with an introduction, reasons supporting our opinion, and a conclusion. Keep practicing on our homework and at home! In language, we reviewed adjectives and adverbs.
In our afternoon block, we began our final science unit on "Insects and Plants." We started two experiments: one where we are planting brassica seeds and will watch how they grow in different environments, and one where we observe the life cycle of a butterfly. Ask your child how each progresses over the next few weeks! In math, we continued module 7 on Problem Solving with Length, Money, and Data. We focused more on solving multi-step word problems with money and took the mid-module assessment. We will look at line plots and finish the module next week.
We also had our specials. We made dinosaur sculptures out of clay in Art with Ms. Sundquist on Monday. We practiced dancing, playing instrument and singing songs for the Spring Sing in Music with Ms. Altshuler. We continued dialogue and discussions in Spanish with Sra. Colmenero. We read a story and checked out books with Mr. Withers in the library. We played some awesome games in P.E. with Mr. Simatic. We also went to an assembly on Monday. Beye is sponsoring the "One School, One Book" program where every family reads the same book at one time. We all got a copy of "The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane" and heard the first chapter out loud at the assembly. Our class will discuss a couple of questions each Thursday. Paces may vary, but we're trying for a chapter a day in our room. Have fun reading!
We don't have school on Friday, so enjoy your three-day weekend! See you on Monday!
