The Fourth Week of Second Grade

We had a busy week in Room 104. We took the MAP tests and learned new skills in reading, writing, math, and social studies.  Let's learn more!

Our week began with spelling through the Words Their Way (WTW) program and our morning meetings. We took our first spelling test on Friday and did a nice job! Students have been sharing their "All About Me" posters each day.  This week we learned about Alvie, Sa'Daree, Zh'Amerion, Mohammad, and Lucas. During our ELA block, we are focusing on retelling stories and using strategies to read tricky words. We've also been building on our reading stamina during Reader's Workshop. In Writer's Workshop, we continued to  craft paragraphs and stories. We also looked at rereading, revising, and working hard to do our best! Phonics has centered around vowels and snap words. We're getting more practice at W.I.N. time as well.

Afternoons included Social Studies, Math, and our specials each day. In Social Studies, we learned about maps and globes. We read "Mapping Penny's World" and read different maps. We also looked at the parts of a map (map key, compass rose, and scale) and created our own map of Room 104. In Math, we finished Module One. We reviewed strategies to add and subtract and solve word problems. Then we took the end of the module assessment. We also worked on adding and subtracting one to build mastery in our computation skills. We start module two on measurement next week. We also got to visit Music with Ms. Brown, learn Spanish with Sra. Colmenero, check out books in the library with Mr. Withers, create some Art projects with Ms. Sundquist, and play games in P.E. with Mr. Simatic. Yay!

We had our MAP Testing this week, too. We took the math and reading tests. I will share results at P/T Conferences in October. We also scheduled our first field trip, which should be a lot of fun.

Overall it was a good week. Have a fantastic weekend!  See you back in Room 104 on Monday!
