Week Thirty-Three

We had a pretty good week in Room 104.  We continued Typing Training, observed our seeds and caterpillars in science, and learned about line plots. Let's learn more about our week!

Our ELA Block included new spelling lists. We also continued Typing Training throughout the week. The students love practicing, so remember that you can practice at home. Be sure to focus on good keyboarding skills, like where to put our hands.  In RUOS, we continued "Series Book Clubs" by reading and discussing characters, events, predicting, and looking at how authors paint pictures with words.  We also finished reading "Andy and Tamika" together and checked our understanding of the story. In WUOS, we continued "Writing About Reading" unit. We practiced organizing and writing good paragraphs with an introduction, reasons supporting our opinion, an example of that reason, and a conclusion. Keep practicing on our homework and at home!  In language, we reviewed precise language.

In our afternoon block, we continued our final science unit on "Insects and Plants." We checked in on our  two experiments: one where we are planting brassica seeds and will watch how they grow in different environments, and one where we observe the life cycle of a butterfly. The seeds have had different growing patterns depending on their environment. The caterpillars have been eating a ton and are getting really big. We thing they might start making their chrysalis over the weekend! We recorded our observations, and learned more about the parts of a plant, what plants need, and how pollination occurs. In math, we finished module 7 on Problem Solving with Length, Money, and Data. We learned what line plots are, how to make them, and how to read them. We will begin module 8 on time, shapes, and fractions on Monday.

We also had our specials. We had free choice in Art with Ms. Sundquist on Monday. We practiced more for the Spring Sing in Music with Ms. Altshuler. We continued dialogue and discussions in Spanish with Sra. Colmenero. We read a story and checked out books with Mr. Withers in the library. We played some awesome games in P.E. with Mr. Simatic. We also had Book Buddies with Mr. Manus' class on Friday.

Next week we have a field trip, MAP Testing, and we begin the A to Z Countdown. Look in your child's home folder for a calendar. See you Monday!
